Crenshaw/LAX Line Celebration in Leimert Park Village

After two years of construction, the Crenshaw/LAX Transit project achieved a long awaited milestone. The $2.068-billion project which broke ground in January 2014 reached the halfway point in May. To celebrate the achievement of reaching the halfway mark of the 8.5-mile light-rail line, elected officials and Metro executives held a community celebration in Leimert Park Village to thank residents for their continued support during the construction process.

Funds for the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project are provided by Measure R, the half-cent sales tax approved by L.A. County voters in 2008. The new line is projected to bring traffic relief to some of Los Angeles County’s most congested and unserved areas such as Crenshaw District, Inglewood, Westchester, Los Angeles International Airport and many other neighborhoods.

10th Annual Leimert Village Park Book Fair Aug. 20, 2016

This year marks the 10th anniversary of one of the most anticipated festivals in Los Angeles, the Leimert Park Village Book Fair. The festival will take place on Saturday, August 20, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the grounds of the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza (BHCP).

Over 5,000 book lovers attend the event. This festival offers book signings, panel discussions writer interviews and interactive activities that include writing workshops, film screenings, theater performances and much more. Poets, celebrity authors, speakers and artists come to participate in this event every year.

Founder Cynthia Exum says she plans on stepping up her game for the anniversary by adding a full week of activities that will lead up to the signature, main event. For more information, visit www.leimertparkbookfair.com.

Clinton Visits Liemert Park

Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton held a “Get Out the Vote” rally in Leimert Park to develop support for her campaign.

Clinton attracted a large crowd of over 500 to Leimert Park Village, including several celebrities and prominent figures who wanted to show their support for the former Secretary of State. Actors Jamie Foxx, Jason George, Tatyana Ali, and Star Jones spoke at the event and rallied the crowd. Also in attendance were: former NBA player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar; Mayor Eric Garcetti; U.S. Reps. Karen Bass and Maxine Waters; Gwen Carr, mother of Eric Garner; Rev. Wanda Johnson, mother of Oscar Grant; and Sybrina Fulton, mother of Trayvon Martin.

At the event, Clinton asked Californians for their support and urged them to vote. She also discussed why she is the best candidate to raise incomes for California families, to lower health care costs, and improve education. […]

The Greater Leimert Park Village Crenshaw Corridor Business Improvement District (“GLPVCC BID”) is a unique and eclectic mix of retail, restaurant, art, office, parking and mixed-use commercial businesses located five miles south of the Interstate 10 Freeway in Los Angeles.

For over 50 years Leimert Park has been an important center of African-American art and culture as well as a center of commerce.

Commerce is a major attraction in GLPVCC BID. From one of the oldest shopping centers in the US, Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza, to restaurants, cafes, boutiques, bookstores, banks, performing arts centers, theaters and night clubs, Greater Leimert Park Village has it all. The People Street Plaza on 43rd Place and the Metro Crenshaw LAX Line (opening in 2019) will add to the vibrancy of the community.
